Executive Summary

NeoTerra’s Mission
Our mission at NeoTerra is to create awareness of the detrimental effects of plastic pollution in our environment, particularly in the city of Ibadan. We target young ones especially those in public secondary schools in the city. NeoTerra is determined to improve urban resilience and sustainability by effective waste management. According to a study carried out in 2017, one major problem facing the Ibadan waste disposal system is the unwillingness on the part of certain communities to pay for services rendered. At NeoTerra, we have come up with a win-win solution. Instead of paying to dispose their waste, these communities are paid when they give us their plastic waste.
An Overview of Competitive Advantages
By targeting the youth especially those in secondary schools, we involve them directly in the task of keeping their environment safe and clean and sensitizing them on the need to help save the planet.
With the above, the culture of effective waste collection and management is imbibed in these youths.
We utilize a reward system whereby vouchers are issued based on weight of plastic collected. These vouchers can be exchanged for food items and medical drugs at our various reward outlets.
We operate a unique incentive -based waste collection system in low income communities.
Company Goals
We aim at establishing a hundred green clubs located in secondary schools in all areas of Ibadan and Oyo state at large.
We want to create a viable and sustainable waste management system involving the people directly, teaching them how to generate value from their waste.
In the future, we plan to expand our services to include waste conversion, especially plastic to pavement blocks and tiles.
To help communities better understand the relationship between solid waste particularly plastic and increased flood, health, and environmental risks.
Potential Investors
Ibadan Urban Flood Management Project: Although, flood risk and solid waste management may not be directly linked, the buildup of discarded waste pollutes Ibadan’s streets, roadways and rivers. Eventually causing and worsening the flooding that plagues the city.
Oyo State Waste Management Agency
Nigeria Bottling Company
Kunle Ara Pharmacy
Marykay Pharmacy and Stores

Company & Business Description

Company’s Purpose
NeoTerra is an enterprise concerned with environmental sustainability and urban resilience. At NeoTerra, we believe in creating sustainable cities by building environmentally sustainable communities.

Vision Statement
” Environmental sustainability by public participation”. This is because at NeoTerra, we believe a safer and a cleaner environment is possible when members of the public get involved.

Core Values
Awareness- Creating awareness in low-income communities and secondary schools on environmental issues that threaten their health and living systems
Participation- Community and individual participation in collection of recyclable plastic waste.
Reward- We want to help people see that there are not only environmental benefits but also monetary benefits when they practice proper waste disposal.

Service Offerings
We offer an efficient incentive based plastic waste collection and disposal system. We plan to achieve this through two streams;
Student Outreach: Students in secondary schools will be trained and educated on plastic waste collection. They will be encouraged to do this by awarding of vouchers to them according to the weight of plastic waste they are able to generate.
Community Outreach: Communities will be taught the connection between environmental cleanliness and their health. Emphasizing the need for them to take active part in proper plastic waste disposal practices. This uses the reward system also.

Market Analysis

Target Market
We aim at selling the plastic waste we have garnered to a recycling company located in Lagos. The plastic waste would be sold in large commercial quantities. Hence, to help acquire the needed amount of plastic, we would be partnering with various schools and local communities. We also would be employing a workforce of youth and women in collecting plastic waste. On presenting the plastic they have collected; they would be awarded vouchers based on the weight of plastic presented.
Location Analysis
We have decided to operate from within the University of Ibadan campus. This is because the campus is close to major communities we seek to work at. The close proximity will enable us to reach these communities on time. It will also afford us the opportunity of observing the environmental issues affecting these communities.
Competitor Analysis
The field of plastic recycling has seen many top influencers in the past few years. Start-ups such as Wecyclers, a multiple award-winning recycling company located in Lagos. Another is Recycle points to mention a few. We used a SWOT analysis to analyze our position to that of our competition.
Strengths- A pioneer of plastic waste recycling in Ibadan.
Weakness- Low financial capacity.
Opportunity- With the Covid-19 crisis, there has been a huge surge in the use of plastic gloves, masks and personal protective equipment contributing the plastic waste issue. Streets all over the world are lined with discarded face masks. All these end up being washed into our drainage system and rivers. This is according to a report by CNN on May 4, 2020. Thus, NeoTerra’s initiative of cleaning up Ibadan’s plastic waste will be relevant.
Threats- Competition from other waste recycling companies, unfavourable government policies and regulations and shifting support of sponsors.

Marketing Plan

Positioning Strategy
In attracting potential sponsors, we plan to appeal to the good public image it will give to these companies. For example, our reward partners will be pharmacies and supermarkets. These would give them further public acclaim and exposure.
We also plan to start a website, where our services will be made available to a larger audience.

Acquisition Channels
We would be making good use of social media to create awareness of our services. Additionally, applying for grants will go a long way in establishing NeoTerra. This year we would be prioritizing getting partnerships and grants in establishing the business idea.
